Indian Football Awards 2009

The second FPAI Awards, in collaboration with Lucozade Sport and TransStadia once again brought to all present a memorable night.


The venue for the ceremony was the ever so posh Taj Palace Hotel. The night had many luminaries present from the film industry like John Abraham, Rahul Bose and Nandana Sen. There were others from the field of politics present like the AIFF President - Mr.Praful Patel, Sports Minister – Mr. M.S. Gill, the Health Minister - Mr. Dinesh Trivedi and Mr. Sam Pitroda. The AFC President, Mr. Bin Hammam was also present. The Chairman of FIFPRO Asia, MrBrenden Schwab was also present along with Ms. FredriqueWinia.The awards night started off with a short video on FPAI and the awards night last year. Then the President of FPAI, BhaichungBhutia delivered the welcome address and sharing information about FPAI and its motive behind organizing this event.

 
Speaking about the event Bhaichung said that the award winners were selected by their fellow players. The players of all the I League teams had voted for the winners of the night.The night began with three felicitations for Sunil Chhetri for playing professional football in USA, then it was DipakMondal for getting the Arjuna Award and BhaichungBhutia was also felicitated for playing over hundred games for the country.After the felicitations were over the first big award for the night which was the “Best Young Player of the Year”- This award was won by JoquimAbranches of Dempo Sc.
 
After this we decided to honor a person without whom a football team couldn’t be a successful one even if they had the best players of the world. Iit was time to give the award for the “Best Coach of the Year” this year the award went to Armando Colaco of DempoSc.After this we had the very talented Street Kings of India performing. They are the only professional freestyle footballers in the country. This was followed by a short musical performance by Sanjeev and SandeepVyaas.Thereafter we had the award for the “Fittest Player of the Year” which was won by Anthony Pereira. This award winner was chosen by the senior members of the Indian National Football Team. Thereafter it was time to give the award for the “Fans Player of the Year” which was won by Subrata Pal.
 
We were left with the last and the biggest award of the night the “Best Indian Player of the Year”. This year the award was won by Md. Rafi and the award was given to him by AIFF President Mr. Praful Patel and Mr. John Abraham.
